Shin Committee to Push Daughters Case

The movement to save Shin Suk Ja, the woman better known as the ‘Daughter of Tongyeong’, is now planning to try and save Shin’s two daughters, who are currently being kept in North Korea.

The ‘Rescue the Daughter of Tongyeong Committee’ will hold an event in Seoul at 3PM on the 20th to launch a nationwide push for the immediate repatriation of the two daughters or a reunion with their father, Oh Kil Nam, in a third country.

The ‘UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention’ officially urged North Korea this past May to immediately release and compensate Shin and her two daughters, who have been in North Korea since the mid-80s, a large part of which they are known to have spent in a prison camp.

The head of the ‘Rescue the Daughter of Tongyeong Committee’, Heo Hyun Jun told Daily NK today, “The UN’s decision gives us a legitimate reason to ask North Korea under international law to release Shin Suk Ja and her two daughters. The North Korean authorities should immediately implement the decision of the UN.”
