Ruling Saenuri Party lawmaker Cho Hae Jin has urged the Chinese government to warn North Korea over the infringement of its sovereignty in the case of nine young North Korean defectors repatriated from Laos across Chinese territory earlier this week, and demand that restorative measures be taken.
Cho told a press conference earlier today, “The case of the repatriation of nine people who were waiting in Laos to come to the Republic of Korea is a bitterly sad and disappointing one.”
“The government and National Assembly should work on securing their lives and wellbeing,” he also noted. “The government should closely examine the course of events so as to establish who was responsible, and then consider countermeasures to ensure that the same thing never happens again.”
“I strongly urge the North Korean regime to end their oppressive system, which endangers the lives of the people to preserve an anachronistic hereditary communist dictatorship regime,” he added.
