Mr. Yokota Shigeru, father of Megumi said, “I want to meet my granddaughter Hye Kyung right now, but I won’t because I might be politically used by North Korea”. He added, “I will see Hye Kyung when she is sent back to Japan”.
He also said, “The North Korean government will likely make Mr. Kim say that Megumi has died, but we will not be deceived.”
Japan predicts that Kim Young Nam will present testimony that proves the truth of Megumi’s death at a press conference on the 29th.
Japanese experts on North Korea say, if Kim Young Nam claims that he voluntarily went to North Korea, it will be hard to trust his testimony on Megumi’s death. However, if he admits that North Korea abducted him, his testimony about Megumi’s death could be taken into account.
The Japanese media expressed much interest, televising the reunion of Kim Young Nam and his family after 28 years.
NHK reported that the tearful reunion had occurred as a newsflash at 4pm. Of particular interest in Japan, was the report that Hye Kyung, daughter of Mr. Kim and Megumi, was present at the reunion.
TBS reported the reunion at 3:55 pm, when they do not have any regularly scheduled news programming. They also reported that Kim Young Nam will hold a press conference tomorrow and discuss the whereabouts of Megumi.
Kyoto Communication pointed out that the focus is to see how much new information will be released through the reunion. The main newspapers, including the Asahi Shinmun, reported the reunion of Kim Young Nam and his family through their internet newspaper.
