[imText1]Assemblypersons including Lim Jong Suk are planning to submit a ‘Military Withdrawal Resolution’ to the Assembly. It can be said that they forget why the Korean troops was dispatched to Iraq through the acrimonious dispute.
The first purpose of the Jaitun troops dispatch was to reinforce the Korea-U.S alliance. One of the driving forces to reinforce their alliance is trust. Trust does not come only from the repetitive words such as ‘there is no problem in the Korea-U.S alliance’. The trust between them comes from their mutually cooperative behaviors.
The Jaitun dispatch lowered down the possibility of their confrontation that was occurring in their policies towards N. Korea. Thus, it was a wise choice, so we should take good care of the choice. Now the entire U.S is in trouble with the withdrawal from Iraq. In this situation, to fret to withdraw the Jaitun quickly is same as to pick up the flower before the flower blooms.
The government should not be under the control of the supporters for the Jaitun withdrawal, who are anti-Americans and do not have insight into gain and loss in international relations. It should show its seriously cooperative attitude in the Jaitun withdrawal issue until the U.S decides to withdraw its troops.
In addition, it should practice social reconstruction activities through the Jaitun. Since the mid of 1990, the N. Korean economic system has been collapsed. N. Korea has been internationally isolated because of its missiles and nuclear test problems. It was already ascertain that the Kim Jong Il regime does not have capability to keep and develop N. Korea. The future of N. Korean society is hazy.
In the medium and long term, the South Korean government should prepare for such current situation. As the collapse of N. Korea occurs, the government should quickly recover and reconstruct security and stability in N. Korea. The Jaitun activities will be useful for getting such ability.
The Jaitun dispatch was a great opportunity to reinforce the Korea-US alliance and reinforce the ability of South Korean military to reconstruct a society. We should not lose real benefit from international relations because of some of anti-American politicians.
