Video Clip on North Koreans Taking Drugs, First to be Revealed

[imText1]The video clip of North Korean people taking drugs in group was publicly broadcasted for the first time.

Japanese broadcaster, Asahi TV obtained a video containing residents of Huiryeong City, North Hamkyung province, taking in drugs in a group and broadcasted it on the night of October 7, on its issue-reporting program called “Broadcast Station.”

How was it recorded?

According to Asahi TV, the video was taken by two different people, one in August and another filmed the video in September. The location was Chongjin, North Hamkyung province in August and Huiryeong, North Hamkyung province in September.

A Chinese, who was visiting his relatives in Chongjin, took the first part. He filmed the scenes with the help of other North Koreans. The whole process of inhaling drugs of the residents sitting in a circle is included in the video. The scenes taken in Huiryeong was taken by a North Korean and taken to China by a film broker.

What does the video contain?

▲ Asahi TV previous reports on North Korean drug addicts.

▲ Raising pigs inside a house.

▲ Portraits of the Kim Jong Il family’s “Three Generals”.

▲ Making of foil to put drugs on.

▲ Making of a straw with a 5000Won bill.

▲ A North Korean inhaling smokes of drugs.

▲ Recommending it to the person beside.

▲ Presence of women, also inhaling drugs.

▲ Putting drugs known as “ice” on the foil.

▲ Inhaling with special tools after melting it on a fire.

The two video clips seem to be emphasizing that the location of occurrence is North Korea, They start recording with showing a pig grown in a room and showing the portraits of Kim Jong Il family. North Korean people raise pigs in the kitchen inside a house in the fear of robbery and all the families must hang portraits of Kim Jong Il family.

In the Chongjin video, three people inhale drug “ice” together. One takes in first skillfully and teaches how to do it like him to the other two. Seeing the money exchanged, it is assumed that the person who first inhaled is the seller.

The method of drug inhalation is first put drug on the foil which was taken out of burned cigarette box, and then roll it like a straw and inhale the drug.

Interesting thing is that they use a new bill of 5,000Won($2.5) that has Kim Il Sung’s portrait as a straw to inhale the drug. The reason for its use seems to be that 5,000Won bill is much more rigid than other bills. 5,000Won bills were first issued in October 2002.

However, before, people would not dare folding or rolling the bills that had Kim Jong Il’s portrait. The scenes are one of the many evidences of decaying popular loyalty toward the Kim father and son.

In the Huiryeong video, one person takes in drug. The kind of drug also seems to be “ice”.

The people inhale drug with a tool made up of complicatedly twisted straws. One source who obtains North Korean news explained, “That is how an addict take in the drugs.”

Drug Situation in North Korea

North Korea has been involved in drug trafficking of opium and heroin under the direct order of Kim Jong Il since the early 1990s. It is called “white balloonflower business.” Furthermore, making it look like pharmaceutical factories, they actually conduct mass production of philopone and various kinds of stimulants.

For this reason, the UNODC has finger pointed North Korea as one of the main countries of heroin production and trafficking and the drug and stimulants controlling international organ that receives financial support by the UN, INCB noted North Korea as the main producer of a stimulant called mes-amphetamine.

However, with the recent stricter drug control by China, Japan, and other neighboring countries, North Korea’s drug trafficking has been affected. For this reason, it is known that some of the drugs that had been stored is now being circulated in the society for consumption.

As the DailyNK reported previously that many kinds of drugs such as “Ice,” “Bullets,” “Denda” and “Doridor” are wide spread in North Korea causing increase of number of drug addicts in the North Korean society. .

For this reason, the government of North Korea has formed the “Drug Control Grupa” (group) in August and is carrying out a drug special control activities in the three main of North Korea, namely Pyongyang, Hamheung, and Shinuiju.
