Arirang Performance in Pyongyang had been quite an issue these days. The number of South Koreans who visited Pyongyang for the performance reaches up to couple thousands. This means there are many people who have been to Pyongyang.
The government of North Korea calls Pyongyang “City of Revolution.” For this reason, all the streets in Pyongyang are clean. This is because it would make a wrong impression to the outsiders if the city of revolution is dirty. Residents of Pyongyang are obliged to clean the surrounding area of their residents every morning.
Only the selected people are given permission to live in Pyongyang. Most of the residents are the important party or the military workers and their families. The sole fact that they live in Pyongyang is “honor” and “mercy of commander” for the residents.
It is a good thing that the city is clean. However, if only the outsiders knew that all the handicapped and disabled people and “indecent looking” people were expelled from the city, their thought of this decent city will change. Pyongyang is a display itself. For this reason, many European visitors express Pyongyang as “a city of no color and no smell of human.”
