[On Location At The Yalu River] Whose Dead Body Is In the Wooden Casket?

[imText1]Photos of a casket with a dead body presumed to be that of a North Korean soldier were released.

Kang Chul Hwan, Representative of NKGulag released four photos to FreeNK. They are claimed to have been taken by an official from a group supporting North Korean defectors in China. The photos contain images of a casket being delivered from Jiangbai to Hyesan.

The photos show Chinese police fixing the casket onto a rubber boat and transporting it to the opposite side of North Korean boundary. Subsequent photos show two men, presumed to be North Korean National Security Agents, coming across the river to take the casket. When the casket reaches North Korea, residents of Hyesan are seen stading around and watching.

The photographer added to the testimony of a Hyesan resident who said, “It takes 7~8 hours from Yenji to Jiangbai. A North Korean solider who seems to have died in the winter was found on the road. It seems like he froze to death after defecting while he was armed, and the dead body was exposed when snow melted”.

The photo was taken at Jiangbai, across from Hyesan in Yanggang Province three weeks ago. The photographer said the casket seemed to contain 2~3 corpses.

Corpses of North Korean defectors who freeze to death are found here and there near Jiangbai, and are usually buried in China.

However, corpses of North Koreans who are wanted by the North Korean government, or corpses that need to be identified are delivered to North Korea in a casket.
