In an attempt to stoke domestic tension, the North Korean authorities claimed in recent lectures that the South Korean military suffered many deaths in the November 23rd shelling of Yeonpyeong Island, an inside source informed The Daily NK today.
According to the source from Yangkang Province, “Last week, lectures based on materials distributed by the Propaganda Department of the provincial Party were delivered to all organizations, including Party and administrative organs and workplaces.”
“Even our ability to tolerate this kind of thing has its limit,” the lecturer apparently declared, explaining, “The heroic Chosun People’s Army took the chance to show their incomparable bravery in the righteous slapping down of the enemy’s reckless provocation.”
“They also emphasized that the South Chosun puppet military suffered tens of deaths in the Yeonpyeong Island attack, while the People’s Army base won total victory with its iron discipline and high ideological consciousness,” the source revealed.
The lecture materials also specified that the imperialists’ schemes to provoke war and annihilate socialism would continue to be met with “ultra-tough responses” by the power of the “heroic” Chosun Peoples’ Army.
It is likely that the lectures were organized in an attempt to build a tense atmosphere in the period from December 13th to 17th, the days immediately before South Korea’s live fire military exercise on Yeonpyeong Island on December 20th.
