South Korea’s main opposition party has sent a strong message to Pyongyang, warning it against conducting further provocations.
Park Jie Won, former house leader of the Democratic United Party, issued the cautionary words on the 29th, telling a South Korean radio program, “Kim Jong Eun should not continue playing with fire in this rash way.”
However, Park added that an excessive response from the South Korean government would be “inappropriate.”
“North Korea always seeks to attract the world’s attention every time there is a ‘big event’,” he explained, looking to the timing of any possible nuclear test before noting not only the impending inauguration of President-elect Park Geun Hye but also the February 16th anniversary of Kim Jong Il’s birth, one of North Korea’s major national holidays.
However, he added that jaw-jaw and cooperation are the best response to North Korean provocations, asserting, “A strong reaction from our President-elect Park would not be appropriate. Rather than strong measures, we need diplomatic effort.”
