North Korea launched three short-range missiles in a north-easterly direction into the sea off its East Sea coast today.
According to the South Korean Ministry of National Defense, “North Korea launched three guided missiles from its East Sea coastal region, two in the morning and one in the afternoon.”
The Ministry clarified that it does not believe the missiles were long- or medium-range projectiles, but is continuing to review the situation. According to another military official, “The related projectiles fell into the sea. We assume that they were either for exercises or testing.”
Launches such as this are not particularly uncommon. The last such reported test prior to today was on March 15th, 2013.
