A woman in her 40s was sentenced to two years in a labor camp after assaulting a teenage girl who she suspected was having an affair with her husband, Daily NK sources reported late last year.

“The wife of a farm manager in the Samjiyon area was sentenced to two years in prison for beating a 16-year-old minor in early October,” a Ryanggang Province-based source told Daily NK on Dec. 12.

According to the source, the woman thought her husband was having an affair with the girl, so she went to the teenager’s house and assaulted her.

Local sources said that the girl lived in a poor home and had been receiving financial help from the woman’s husband. When the girl got pregnant, however, the man’s wife reportedly grew suspicious about the true nature of her husband’s relationship with the girl.

The woman’s beating left the teenager seriously injured and local sources reported she received treatment at a local hospital for her injuries.

The woman had long suspected her husband of having affairs and the couple had a history of spats, according to local sources.

“Her husband ended up cooperating with the authorities to ensure she was sent to the labor camp,” one source added.
