North Korea’s online media targeting on South Koreans and overseas Koreans, “Uriminjokkiri (Amongst Our Nation),” criticized on the 8th by pointing to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for the South Korean administration’s urging of the improvement in North Korea’s human rights at the United Nations Human Rights Committee Meeting.
The media said in a criticism titled, “You Should Conduct Yourselves with Prudence,” “Recently, a delegate from the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade provoked us in his keynote speech at the 7th meeting of the UN Human Rights Committee by saying thoughtless remarks such as the ‘North Korean human rights situation’ and ‘We urge North Korea to appropriate measures.'”
It added, “The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade agreed with such remarks, saying that ‘it [the Ministry] had confirmed the basic position of the administration.”
“Uriminjokkiri” also raised its voice, saying, “The South Korea’s conservative powers criticizing us on international stage on the nonexistent ‘human rights issue’ is a serious provocation which cannot be accepted by our sacred dignity.”
It also criticized, “Denying the mentality of the June 15th Joint Declaration and driving towards another confrontation in North-South Korean relations is nothing but thoughtless anti-national impulse.”
A spokesperson for the DPRK’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland strongly refuted, “Recently, the conservative powers in South Korea foul-mouthed our nonexistent “human rights issue” at the 7th UN Human Rights Committee Meeting.”
Simultaneously, “Uriminjokkiri” insisted, “The ‘North Korean human rights issue’ as a whole, which they have been talking about, is a strategic product fabricated by the strong conservative powers and their servile followers to shake our sacred system by undermining our Republic international position and image.”
Further, it criticized again, “This is an act by (South Korea’s) conservative powers–doing the dance of ‘human rights’ which it has used as a strategy to squeeze us to death. South Korea’s confrontational powers have neither the privilege nor the decency to discuss anyone’s ‘human rights.'”
It also rebuked, “All conservative powers in South Korea have denied the ‘June 15th Joint Declaration’ and the ‘October 4th Declaration.’ With no interest in reconciliation nor in the unification of Korea, they have shown that they can only watch with bloodshot eyes the North-South Korean conflict and with servile obedience to the foreign power.”
An expert on North-South Korea relations forecasted, “North Korea’s resistance to the South Korean administration making the North Korean human rights issue an object of criticism is something which is a sufficiently expected response. Subsequently, according to the Lee Myung Bak administration’s prioritization of North Korean policy, the North can give the excuse of completely counteracting North-South Korea relations.”
He also said, “If the Lee Myung Bak administration loses in the initial competition with North Korea, there is a high possibility of being dragged around by the North for the rest of its term. At the least, it should approach the human rights issue with principle while cooperating with international society and by giving thought to the possibility of a tightening of North-South Korea relations for the time being.”
