[imText1]Hwang Jang Yop, President of the North Korean Democratization Alliance, said regarding the U.S.’ proposal to release the financial sanctions against North Korea in return for freezing the 5MW nuclear reactor in Yongbyun, “It will not be of no help to the resolution of North Korea’s nuke issue.”
During his talks on FreeNK Broadcasting, President Hwang said “North Korea claims it will suspend the nuclear facilities in the area of Yongbyun. However, this means that it will still possess the preexisting nukes” and scrutinized “As long as the nukes are still possessed, there will have been no resolution.”
President Hwang continued, in the case North Korea did freeze its nuclear facilities “They will partner with Pakistan and launch a new and more extensive institution” and stated “North Korea freezing its nuclear facilities is meaningless.”
“If North Korea did freeze its nuclear facilities, the U.S. will claim that the victory was achieved as a result of their pressure” he said and remarked “China who has the greatest access to North Korea will most probably not deny this either.”
Furthermore, “South Korea will probably argue that North Korea froze its nukes because of its Sunshine policy” said President Hwang. He expressed concern of the possibility that the U.S., China, and South Korea will become individually engrossed in arguing that their foreign policy provoked the result.
He said “The more North Korea has to gain from the six-party talks, the stronger the Kim Jong-il regime will become” and asserted “If we continue to go down this path, pro-North Korea and anti-U.S. forces will intensify..”
President Hwang said “First, pro-North Korea and anti-U.S. forces in South Korea need to become a democratic force” and added “Once the regime has been replaced, North Korea’s Chinese like-development and reform occur.”
“The existence of Kim Jong Il’s regime is in the hands of China. The Kim Jong Il regime must be eliminated in a way China will not oppose” he said and added “The best approach is for North Korea’s new structure to be developed and reformed into a system similar to the Chinese.”
