[imText1]Rodong Shinmun, the official newspaper of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, argued on Tuesday that the US should never take military actions against the North if the US is interested in the North’s denuclearization.
In an editorial titled “The American craze for nuclear power contradicts efforts toward the denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula,” Rodong Shinmun condemned the US pointing out the fact that the US nuclear-powered attack submarine called the USS Connecticut arrived in Busan last month and the US Air Force conducted a military training in the South when the North was implementing the agreements of the Six Party Talks for the sake of peace and denuclearization of the Peninsula. Rodong Shinmun denounced the US for “preparing for an act of aggression and conducting an exercise for a war.”
The North has been making peace gesture towards the US because it wants to remove its designation as a state sponsor of terrorism. Indeed, the North was so desperate as to have halted its annual large-scale winter military training.
Rodong Shinmun said “As usual, this is part of antagonistic policies of conservative hardliners of the US against our republic. They are blocking the road towards the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and driving the Peninsula into a state of war.” Rodong Shinmun harshly criticized the acts of the US calling them “criminal acts.”
The newspaper said, “The most important issue of our time is to ease military tensions between two Koreas and secure peace on the Peninsula.” If the US agrees with the issues, Rodong Shinmun said, “The US should stop increasing the military power of the South and conducting an exercise for a nuclear war.”
“We cannot just sit back and watch the US bring a nuclear-powered attack submarine into the South, which poses a nuclear threat to the North,” said Rodong Shinmun.
“The US has been preparing for an act of aggression and war based on its scenario of a preemptive nuclear attack on our republic. The US needs to know that it is threatening its partner for dialogue,” said Rodong Shinmun.
Rodong Shinmun concluded the article stressing, “Now should the time for showing mutual respect and building trust with one another.”
