Hong Joon Pyo, the chairman of the ruling Grand National Party (GNP), arrived in the Kaesong Industrial Complex this morning via the Inter-Korean Immigration Office.

It is the first visit by a sitting GNP chairman to the complex.

Speaking prior to his departure, Hong told reporters, “I will find out about our enterprises’ difficulties and see where improvements can be made.”

“It is a working visit, but inter-Korean relations are totally deadlocked and breaking the deadlock is a politician’s duty,” he went on, implying the hope that the visit could also play a role in improving inter-Korean relations.

“123 of our enterprises are there, working hard,” he added, reiterating, “I will find out about the Kaesong Complex in detail and discover what we can improve and what we can be a help with.”
