An Unwelcome Birthday Gift for Kim Jong Il

[imText1]Grand National Party lawmakers and NGO activists sent “unification balloons” containing 100,000 leaflets towards North Korea this afternoon in commemoration of Kim Jong Il’s birthday.

Nine of the GNP lawmakers joined seven North Korean human rights NGOs including Network for North Korean Democracy and Human Rights (NKnet) to promote the event at Imjingak, north of Seoul.

Before dispatching the balloons, lawmaker Lee Doo Ah read a statement noting that, “The succession from Kim Jong Il to Kim Jong Eun is a violation of the universal and reasonable values of human beings and a tragic act against history.”

One of the balloons contained a GPS unit, making it possible to confirm that the balloons did indeed travel across the DMZ and into North Korea at 3:50PM.
