North Korea has not made contact with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about accepting observers back to monitor last week’s decision to freeze activities at the Yongbyon complex, according to Yukiya Amano, who heads the international nuclear watchdog.
“This isn’t the IAEA observer team directly talking with North Korea, but we have not yet received a request from them,” he explained to reporters in Vienna yesterday.
“Nothing has been confirmed about the implementation,” he added, before noting also, “We would like to know the precise details of the agreement between North Korea and the United States.”
