CERF to Dispense $2.1M to Flood Victims

The UN has agreed to dispense a total of $2.1 million in emergency flood assistance to North Korea this year.

Voice of America (VoA) reported the news on September 18th, saying that the total sum to be dispensed by the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) includes: $920,000 for the WHO; $627,000 for UNICEF; $422,000 for WFP; and $131,000 for UNFPA.

The funds will reportedly be directed toward the prevention and treatment of waterborne diseases (by UNICEF), food assistance (by WFP), and support of pregnant women among the flood victims (by UNFPA). WHO will focus on hygiene projects, including the provision of clean drinking water.

Last year, CERF spent a total of $1 million on post-flood recovery projects in North Korea.
