“[North Korea’s] attitude does not seem to be at the level that our government and international society had hoped,” the Ministry of Unification asserted today with reference to the state of working-level talks between North and South on the future of the Kaesong Industrial Complex.

Kim Hyung Seok, a spokesman for the ministry, told reporters during a regular press briefing, “There are many points of difference that have to be spoken about [with North Korea].”

“The most important key is to ensure that this does not happen again,” he said. “Next, we are negotiating in the direction of the two sides working together to develop the industrial complex into an internationally competitive industrial complex.”

“The government will keep talking with North Korea while calmly maintaining this direction,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Kim spoke on the topic of KIC businesses removing goods from the complex, a process that has been extended by a week, saying that equipment is being taken out but with the focus on things that are possible to transport, rather than on facilities.
