Kim Jong Il has apparently been on vacation in eastern North Korea, in spite of summer flooding that has caused widespread damage in western regions of both North and South Korea,

A source familiar with events in the North revealed the news today, saying that, as in previous years, Kim has been spending time at one of his villas on the east coast and going out on a luxury yacht.

Commenting on the news, another source agreed that it is not new, saying, “Kim Jong Il spends most summers in refreshing Samjiyeon in Yangkang Province or at his nice villa near Chongjin in Hamkyung Province. Particularly since he had a stroke, he has done almost no outdoor activity in the summer, but for the occasional inspection in surrounding areas.”

Accordingly, so far this August Kim is known only to have visited the February 8th Vinylon Complex in Hamheung, further down the east coast from Chongjin, whereas he is not known to have made any visits to locations which suffered in the recent flooding.
