President Park Geun Hye is continuing to urge North Korea to pursue change through her ongoing visit to the United States.

In an interview with the broadcaster CBS on Monday, President Park responded to a question about what message she wishes to send to Kim Jong Eun by saying, “I want to tell him that North Korea must change. That it is the only road to North Korean survival and development.”

She went on, “The endlessly repeating vicious circle whereby North Korea threatens then provokes and then there is agreement and support, then a while later there is another provocation or threat so we make an agreement and give support; this must be broken.”

Park also met with UN General-Secretary Ban Ki Moon, telling him, “The reason I am pushing for the Korean Peninsula trust process is that we can never tolerate North Korea’s nuclear programs. There can never be any reward for North Korean provocations, and we will make them pay if they launch attacks.”

However, “If North Korea takes the right path, then we will do everything in our power to support and cooperate to develop jointly with them,” she reaffirmed, before adding that the opposite path would only lead to further isolation.
