North Korea Getting Critical as Key Resolve Approaches

Uriminzokkiri, the website run by North Korea’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, has heavily criticized the Central United Defense Conference organized by the Lee Myung Bak administration as “a sign of an invasion of the North” and part of a wider confrontational scheme.

In a commentary released today, the propaganda media outlet proclaimed, “Every year South Chosun holds central level meetings under the slogan of ‘united national security’, but there has never been a case like this, inspiring aggressive lunacy and an attitude of extreme confrontation between people of the same race.”

“This is an extension of things like the pre-prepared collapse of the North-South military talks and planned reserve forces forward deployment training within the Key Resolve-Eagle Combined Forces Training at the end of this month,” it went on.

“These are dangerous signs, part of the step-by-step spread of their clamor for anti-Republic war and disgusting choking of people of the same race using the Cheonan and Yeonpyeong Island events as the pretext,” it concluded, adding, “their attempts to invade the North have reached a more reckless level.”

“However, the warmongers must not misjudge” the article warned, predicting that such a provocative conference will only “bring forth their downfall.”

Elsewhere, Rodong Shinmun stated in its own editorial a day earlier on the 21st, “North and South should set off along the path to the reform of inter-Korean relations for the fate and future of the nation by solving this political confrontation.”

It added, “The history of national division tells us that all we can get from aggressive confrontation is consistent division and terrible disaster.”

Therefore, “In order to promote national reconciliation and unity, contacts, cooperation and exchanges between North and South, overseas personnel and every class and level of people must be realized.”
