North Korea has clarified its intention to strengthen its status as a nuclear state.
The North Korean Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland (NKPR), the North Korean organization targeting South Korea which runs the propaganda website Uriminzzokiri, stated yesterday via Chosun Central News Agency yesterday evening, “With invasion moves by enemy groups continuing we will continue to strengthen our status as a nuclear state in order to safeguard our dignity and autonomy”.
In a ‘secretarial office report’, the Committee stated, “As the world officially agrees, we are a recognized nuclear state and the nuclear deterrent is out most irreplaceable revolutionary legacy.”
By making its nuclear weapons a core feature of the ‘last instructions’ of Kim Jong Il, North Korea is putting itself in the domestic position of being unable to forgo its nuclear weapons even if it wanted to, which there is no indication that it does.
