Musical ‘Yoduk Story’ Touring in U.S., Japan, Europe

[imText1]‘Yoduk Story’ will begin it’s tour overseas in the U.S, Japan and Europe. It is a musical directed by Jeong Sung San, a defector from North Korea, who based the plot on stories from North Korean gulags.

Through the cultural performance, Director Jeong hopes that the world will glimpse the truth about North Korean human rights. On the 12th, prior to the overseas tour, he appealed to the public to take great interest in the musical.

He stated that “Earnest pleas will be made in the U.S. to anyone with a conscience to help end Kim Jong Il’s tragic and unpardonable atrocities against the nation.”

From mid-September until the end of October, ‘Yoduk Story’ will be performed at The National Theatre in Washington D.C., the New York Korean Church, the L.A. Scottish Theatre, and plans are being made to select 1-2 more locations at which to perform in the U.S.

Following the tour in the U.S., in November performances will hit stages in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. In addition to a special performance at Poland’s Auschwitz Gulag, there are plans to include Europe in the tour.

Director Jeong said “Performances scheduled within the U.S. will be organized in collaboration with human rights organizations, religious organizations and the Korean community. The Korean War veterans, human rights activists, overseas students, 2nd-3rd generations Korean-U.S. citizens, U.S. university students and many other people have expressed interest in helping with the tour.”

In addition, encore performances are being scheduled for Seoul. The tour began in Daegu last June, making local performances in Gumi, Geoje, Changwon, Ulsan, Busan and Daejeon, and will begin encore performances at the Seoul Olympic Hall between 11th August to the 27th, prior to touring overseas.

At local performances, people with disabilities were invited to a presentation where profits were bestowed to the local community through the donation of wheel chairs.
