Changchun, China — Hoiryeong Municipal Committee of the Party urgently mobilized local residents to clean up the vicinity of the Kim Jong Suk Revolutionary Historical Place this morning, Tuesday, April 20th.
A source from North Hamkyung Province revealed the news on Tuesday afternoon in a telephone conversation with The Daily NK. He explained, “Last night, all of sudden a local people’s unit chairman called round door to door, instructing the people to join in a sanitation campaign at the Kim Jong Suk Revolutionary Historical Place. Accordingly, residents gathered at 6:30 A.M. today and cleaned the vicinity of the place in Osandeok-dong for around an hour, including the road, Kim Jong Suk’s birthplace itself and the statue.”
Therefore, the people of Hoiryeong presume that Kim Jong Il may be planning to visit. The chairperson of the people’s unit explained that this was a regular sanitation campaign, but the source said it was unprecedented for the residents.
“There is no other reason why we would have to do that cleaning up out of the blue, because the Day of Sun has passed and the spring sanitation project has also already been wrapped up,” he said. “Especially, we washed the road in front of the place, so there is a rumor that the General (Kim Jong Il) might be coming to visit there.”
The source added, “People say that if he comes here again, there is the possibility that he may be accompanied by the comrade Captain (Kim Jong Eun).”
Kim Jong Il visited Hoiryeong on February 24th last year to look around his mother’s birthplace and see the statue.
