The Ministry of Unification has again urged North Korea to enter into a dialogue, this time on inter-Korean cooperation.

Kim Hyung Suk, a ministry spokesman, explained to a regular briefing today, “The government publicly explained the current state of South Korean unification policy in its plan for the year. North Korea will have its own assessment of and concerns about the policies.”

“The decisions North Korea makes through that internal discussion depend on them, but we hope they make a good choice for both of us. We hope that during cooperation and dialogue between South and North, they will take the road to Korean Peninsula peace, stability and mutual benefit,” Kim added.

Mirroring recent comments from President Lee Myung Bak and Minister of Unification Ryu Woo Ik, the spokesperson continued, “We will always keep the window of opportunity open so that North Korea can make the right choice.”

With regards to companies involved in inter-Korean cooperation which are experiencing difficulties due to the May 24th measures, the spokesperson said, “The May 24th measures were an inevitable action taken as a result of North Korea’s provocative sinking of the Cheonan and Yeonpyeong Island shelling. We hope that cooperation between the authorities of North and South will bring good results.”
