President Lee Myung Bak has again warned of the need to prepare for possible North Korean provocations in the run-up to the South Korean presidential election.
Speaking with his administration’s diplomatic and national security ministers this morning, President Lee reportedly said, “Prepare for the possibility of North Korean provocations in advance of the presidential election, and consider policy to deal with their blunt attempts to get involved in it.”
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kim Sung Hwan, Minister of National Defense Kim Kwan Jin, Minster of Unification Ryu Woo Ik and National Intelligence Service head Won Se Hoon.
President Lee said something very similar yesterday, telling a cabinet meeting at the Blue House, “We must defend against not only North Korean armed provocations but also their attempts to intervene in our presidential election.”
President Lee leaves South Korea later today on an official trip to Indonesia and Thailand.
