Kerry Says US and China in Step on NK

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says he believes the United States and China are in lockstep on the denuclearization of North Korea.

Giving a press conference following talks with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Brunei, where he is attending the ASEAN Regional Forum, Kerry noted, “All four of us are absolutely united and absolutely firm in our insistence that the future with respect to North Korea must include denuclearization.” Kerry held talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung Se and Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida earlier in the day.

Washington and Beijing agree that the verifiable denuclearization of North Korea should take place in accordance with the 2005 Six-Party Talks agreement, and that mutual cooperation must be enhanced in the pursuit of that outcome, Kerry said.

“China made it clear to me they have made very firm statements and very firm steps they have taken with respect to the implementation of [the denuclearization] policy,” he added.
