North Korea has reported the damage that resulted from a typhoon that crossed the Korean Peninsula at the end of June. Chosun Central News Agency reported the news on the 13th, saying that Typhoon Meari had left a number of problems in its wake.

“Due to strong winds and heavy rain and hail, human damage occurred in a number of areas along the West Sea coast, more than 160 homes were destroyed and more than 21,000 jeongbo (208.3 square kilometers) of arable land was submerged, swept away or buried,” it reported.

It went on, “Many areas including Gangwon, North Hwanghae and South Hwanghae were gripped by a pattern of destruction; the authorities are guaranteeing them the necessary materials while propelling the rebuilding work forward.”

“They are removing water from flooded fields to limit the damage to crops, and building up levees and flood ditches in surrounding areas,” it went on, adding also that Pyongyang’s railways authorities were attempting to limit future damage there.
