Networks owned by major South Korean broadcasters KBS, MBC and YTN have been completely paralyzed by a hacking attack. The data processing systems of financial services firms Shinhan, Nonghyup and Jeju have also been paralyzed to varying degrees, along with those of two insurance companies.

The police are investigating the source of the malicious code used in the attacks, which occurred at around 2PM. Shinhan and Nonghyup both extended their banking business hours to 6PM to cope with problems arising from the attacks, while another bank, Woori, managed to fend off an attack at around the same time. No government agencies appear to have been affected.
