Humanitarian? Too Inhumane! Aids for N. Korea

[imText1]At 6pm, September 11, Fuji TV publicized a clip movie about the latest North Korean internal situation. Taken by a defector who sneaked into North Korea, the clip movie showed serious incidents that happened in Dancheon, South Hamkyung province in the end of May.

Some scenes make the South Korean government very embarrassed. They obviously showed that after aid rice from South Korea came at the Danchun station, all of them were brought and stored in a military store house.

In addition, the movie showed some posters telling that ‘Military First Politics makes people die of starvation! Give the rice not only to the military but also the people!, which were hung in a public place around the Danchun stantion.

Risking his life, one North Korean shouted out his hope that the aid rice from South Korea has to be distributed to the people. A person who saw the poster whispered to the next person, “Now that it has had my say, I feel better”. The aid rice from South Korea is the privilege, life, desperate wish of the Danchun people itself.

Some defector had said that the South Korean people do not figure out what the shouting, ‘Give us rice’ really means. He said it is a really desperate shouting for survival of the North Korean people. It is difficult even to say about the death by starvation, following the malnutrition and enervation. In the mid of 90’s when hundreds of people had died of starvation, ‘9.27 person who cleared corps in the early morning had existed.

Some defectors who worked for it said that, “Dying of starvation was really painful so that when dying, people scratched the concrete ground with bare nails of their hands. They do not die comfortably. They writhed in their painful starvation and their nails and hands were drowned with blood. They were living skeletons and penises of men were too shrunk to be able to be seen.

The aid rice from South Korea is recreating a N. Korean corrupt society

A defector told his story, “One day when he was passing by the Chongjin station during ‘the March of Tribulation’, a young woman falling down called him and asked a help to carry her on one side of a road. The woman said, “When I died, a lot of lice would come out of my corpse. It would be so shameful. Please carry me out of eyes of people”.

At first, he cursed her saying with the power to say that, you had to struggle to be alive, yet I hid her in the corner. He said that, “There was nothing except that”.

Professor Lee Young Hwa, monitoring the internal situation of North Korea claimed that “50% to 70% of the aid materials from the world first goes to the military armies”. Such claim is the same as the witnesses of defectors.

Kim Jong Il asserts that the aid materials from South Korea is “a tribute only for Kim Jong Il” and so they should first go to the military armies. The military leaders sell them to Jangmadangs. And with the income from the selling, they buy and ration corns to soldiers.

The margin from the selling and buying goes to pockets of the military leaders. Finally, the aid rice from South Korea shines the Military First Politics of Kim Jong Il, and creates a corrupt cycle that the military leaders get money and people are starved.

The South Korean government labels ‘humanitarian’ on the aid for N. Korea. It criticizes the opposite of it as if they are inhumane. However, to Kim Jong Il, the aid rice is just a tribute to support the N. Korean military armies.

It is not reasonable to say the government cannot demand the distribution transparency from N. Korea. It is because the demand is natural.

The posters ‘Give people the rice’ hung around the Danchun station is the same as the declaration to the Ministry of Korean Unification, not to Kim Jong Il. The government should not ignore the demand from the North Korean people any more.

It is the principle that the humanitarian aid rice from South Korea goes to the North Korean people. Unless the government does not rebuild the principle now, the humanitarian aid would be said to be too inhumane aid to the North Korean people.
