A variety of North Korean state media outlets attacked the administration of President Lee Myung Bak today over the South Korean leader’s visit to the disputed island of Dokdo last Friday, a move which led to the Japanese government recalling its ambassador in protest.
Uriminzokkiri, a propagandist website targeting South Korea run by the North Korean Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, called the visit a “farce” intended to disguise President Lee’s “true identity as a pro-Japanese traitor” and to help the administration escape a sense of political crisis.
North Korean state news provider Chosun Central News Agency (KCNA) also weighed in, hitting out at Japan over its response to the Dokdo visit, but then going on to say that “the Japanese reactionaries’ impudent territorial claim to an inalienable part of the territory of Korea is attributable to the South Chosun authorities’ low-profile diplomacy and sycophancy towards Japan.”
Meanwhile, Rodong Shinmun, the publication of the Chosun Workers’ Party and one that releases stories targeting the North Korean people themselves, released news of a “white paper” by the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of Korea (DFRK) in a piece entitled ‘Lee Myung Bak Traitor Party and Japanese Reactionaries Accused of Criminal Scheme for Military Collusion around the World’.
The white paper, which focused on accusing the Lee administration of betraying the Korean people in the process of forming a military nexus with Japan and the United States, reportedly declared, “When Japanese Prime Minister Noda paid a visit to South Korea in October 2011, Lee begged him for cooperation over the ‘issue of north’s nukes.’ In return for it he shut his eyes to sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army and its moves to grab part of the territory of Korea and agreed to start the second South Chosun-Japan ‘joint research in the new era’ to establish ‘future-oriented relations’.”
“It is only the clan of the ‘Saenuri Party’ that shields, patronizes and praises Lee’s pro-Japanese acts,” the white paper concluded.
