Rare Banquet Images Revealed

[imText1]In North Korea the authorities invite selected foreigners to banquets on February 16, April 15, September 9 and on other, less important days and one-off special occasions.

The dinners are generally held at the People’s Palace of Culture next to Pyongyang Indoor Stadium.

There, the North Koreans serve several rare dishes. Liquor and beverages are also produced specially for the events. Shindeuk mineral water generally sells in plastic bottles, but for that special dinner it is served in glass bottles. In terms of liquor, there is special beer produced by the Rongseung Brewery and Munbong Soju. In hotels or stores for foreigners they sell Daedonggang Beer and Songhak Soju, but the dinner is served alongside higher quality products.

This kind of commemorative dinner for foreigners is generally hosted by a secretary from the Central Committee of the Party such as Kim Ki Nam or Kim Jung Rin, who recently died of a heart attack. Depending on the number of visitors, there can be as many as 40 round tables.
