Restart of Shinuiju Special Zone on Kim Il Sung’s Birthday

[imText1]On 19th, a few inside sources staying in Shinuiju revealed that greeting the coming birthday of Kim Il Sung(April 15), North Korea has been preparing for the start of the Shinuiju special zone.

The sources said, “The North Korean government has been preparing by taking visual measures to operate the Shinuiju special zone on this occasion.”

However, they added that “it was not decided if the special zone would be open all at once or gradually on March 15th.”

It was known that the North Korean government would have seven thousand families (roughly 25,000 to 30,000 people) to disperse into the near cities and countries, which include most of the residents living in Sangdanli and Hadanli of Shinuiju.

The sources predicted that “the moving residents would be the homeless, scoundrels, wrongdoers of people’s committees and reactionaries.”

Besides thatt, another source informed, “There is a plan to build the large-scale ‘trade zones’ in Sangdanli and Hadanli of Shinuiju adjoining the Yalu River. It also said “around 150 Foreign Currency Offices which are currently located in Shinuiju received new instructions related to the ‘trade zones’ establishment. They all are under control of the North Korean government.”

The source conveyed that, “Currently, Jangmadang is being built at the south of Shinnuiju which is under the twice-expansion road construction between Rakwondong and South Shinuiju,” saying, “Most of the workers and the residents are being mobilized now for the construction.”

Regarding the start of the Shinuiju special zone, another rumor is being widely spread that the highway construction connecting Pyongyang and Shinuiju would start.

It was once said that the Shinuiju special zone would be established at the Chulsan area in South Shinuiju. Yet, it is said that because there are no trains, difficulty with access and too much capital investment, the Shinuiju special zone would be reestablished.
