Japan’s LDP to Consider Helping Shiokaze, a Japanese Radio Company to NK

[imText1]Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party decided to consider whether to support “Shiokaze,” a Japanese radio company that broadcast shortwave radio programs for the North Koreans on issues related to the Japanese abductees, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported on Wednesday.

According to the Yomiuri, LDP’s Abduction Committee held its first meeting on Tuesday and concluded to ask the government to provide subsidy for the short-wave radio company, run by private “Missing People Investigation Commission.”

Also the Committee required the Japanese government to allocate necessary budget for Shiokaze. Since it was subsidy for a specific private organization, a thorough investigation would be conducted before compilation of budget.

Shiokaze has been broadcasting toward North Korea twice per day since last October, and has been run by donation. Program is mainly consisted of reading letters of the families of the missing people who are allegedly abducted by North Korea.

The LDP Committee plans to submit a financial restriction bill to ban transactions between Japanese companies and North Korean financial subsidiaries suspected to be involved in money laundering activities.
