Pyongyang Recalls Senior Official

North Korea’s deputy delegate to UNESCO Hong Yong was spotted yesterday at the Beijing Airport prior to boarding an Air Koryo flight bound for Pyongyang.
Hong is the latest in a series of high-level officials recalled home by the North following the purge and execution of Jang Song Taek.

Pak Kwang Chol, North Korea’s ambassador to Sweden, was seen returning home on the 27th, and North Korea’s ambassador to Malaysia Jang Yong Chol was witnessed in transit at China’s Shenyang Airport on the 5th.  Jang is the nephew of Jang Song Taek.

The husband of Jang’s elder sister, North Korea’s ambassador to Cuba Jon Yong Jin, was summoned home earlier in the month.
This latest sighting comes after a statement made yesterday by South Korea’s Minister of Unification Ryoo Kihl Jae that, “We are picking up signs that persons with close connections to Jang Song Taek are being recalled and purged.”
