Man Dies in Kaesong Dormitory

A South Korean employee was discovered dead inside the Kaesong Industrial Complex (KIC) at 7:25AM on November 30th. A police investigation is underway and an autopsy to determine the cause of death was scheduled to take place on December 1st.

The man in his 50s, who has been named as Chu, was discovered in a dormitory by a co-worker, according to the Ministry of Unification and Paju police.

The co-worker reportedly discovered the body when he dropped by the deceased man’s room to suggest eating breakfast together. A local medical team confirmed the death, and the body was then repatriated to South Korea with the agreement of North Korean complex management.

A spokesperson for the police later said that Chu did not have any pre-existing illnesses or external injuries. He is thought likely to have died of heart failure.
