Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, reportedly gave orders to the entire North Korean military in her capacity as deputy director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK).
“Comrade Kim Yo Jong issued an order entitled ‘Regarding the Improvement of the Korean People’s Army’s Logistics and Supply Chain’ to each branch of the military on Dec. 26,” a military source from North Hwanghae Province told Daily NK on Dec. 31.
This order follows an earlier directive concerning “the working conditions and health of female soldiers” that Kim handed down on Dec. 17.
IMPROVING THE MILITARY’S LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY
Kim’s recent order to the entire military appears to be part of an attempt to position herself as the “second highest-ranking successor in the Mount Paektu lineage.”
In the order, Kim emphasized the importance of the military’s logistics system and proposed specific plans to improve the military’s supply chain, sources said.
Kim reportedly noted in the order that the improvement of logistics is the “path to strengthen military power.”
The order also included her thoughts on how to improve the military’s livestock industry. She called on military units to set high meat production goals and spare no effort to accomplish them, according to sources.
She specifically ordered that military bases properly cultivate both chicken and pig populations and that “chicken excrement should be used in pig feed,” a source added.
Sources said that this isn’t the first time the North Korean leadership has ordered the military to make pig feed out of eight parts chicken excrement and two parts regular pig feed.
SOLDIERS FACE DIFFICULTY MEETING DEMANDS
There is also an emerging sense among soldiers that Kim’s orders are “in step with Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un’s love for the soldiery.”
Soldiers, however, face difficulties in “unconditionally” complying with the orders Kim has handed down.
“Military bases have little choice but to either expand existing chicken coops or build new ones because North Korea’s de facto second-in-command has ordered it,” a source told Daily NK.
“Military bases built rabbit houses this year following orders from the Party to increase rabbit meat production, but now they are overwhelmed by this recent order to build more chicken coops,” he added.
