Potential Investors to Head North

Business leaders from Europe and Asia are set to visit North Korea next month to explore potential investment opportunities, indicating an active effort by the North to seek new revenue streams outside of China.

Radio Free Asia reported on the 6th that a delegation including representatives from Australia, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Taiwan and Thailand will arrive in Pyongyang on February 14th for a six day sojourn.
The trip has been organized by the Korean Friendship Association, a group headed by Spanish citizen Alejandro Cao de Benos de Les y Perez.

It is believed the North Korean authorities desire foreign investment in the traditional medicine industry, engine production and mining development, particularly rare earth elements.  The minimum amount required to invest in the mining sector is purportedly fixed at one million Euros.
