[imText1]Recently, Hwang Jang Yop, President of the North Korean Democratization Alliance said that the six party talks Feb 13 Agreement had only resulted in strengthening Kim Jong Il’s leadership.
At a student meeting on the 27th in Seoul, President Hwang said regarding the Feb 13 Agreement that the U.S. was making extreme conciliations to North Korea trying to gain a result in foreign policy. He said “Though military alliance with the U.S. is very important, it seems that the U.S. is prioritizing itself ahead of global strategy” and revealed “The U.S. government is negotiating under the interests of its own accord.”
He questioned “What do you think is Kim Jong Il’s aim. Is it to empower the U.S.?” in which he replied “Not only does Kim Jong Il want to overthrow South Korea, he wants to rule the whole Korean peninsula!” stressing that it was the citizens of the Korean Peninsula that were being threatened with North Korea’s nuclear weapons.
“When analyzing the successes and failures of the six party talks, we can scrutinize whether it has either strengthened Kim Jong Il’s leadership, or helped the sacrifices of North Korean citizens” he said and added “Under these criteria, the recent negotiations has only supported Kim Jong Il. The 50,000 tons of fuel is merely for the Kim Jong Il regime’s profit.”
President Hwang said “Since `96, North Korea has furtively completed developments on plutonium and begun advancing its skills on enriched uranium with Pakistan… We cannot close our eyes to the fact that the Yongbyun plant discussed amongst themselves is useless. The people of America are only deceiving themselves.”
In response to media reports which state that Kim Jong Il’s power will not be handed by descent but rather a ruling party, President Hwang spurned “It is not important who inherits his power. Irrespective of who it is, the moment Kim Jong Il dies, North Korean will be unable to uphold itself.”
He added “Moreover, it is ridiculous to think that the military will able to maintain power… The (North Korean) military cannot be called a political body.”
Furthermore, with the March 1st holiday coming up (a holiday to remember the uprising of the Korean people against Japanese colonial rule in 1919) President Hwang commented “The situation in North Korea cannot even be compared to the generation of Japanese rule” and said “During Japanese colonization, people did not die in tens and hundreds of thousands due to starvation and there were no incidents where relatives could not stay the night after a visit or be sent to jail for having bought goods from a different place.”
“Though we profane that it was the generation of the 5 Eulsa Traitors, at that time, Japan was a country with overwhelming great powers. It is a fact that we could not do much under such pressures” he said and criticized “However, right now, South Korea is economically and militaristically superior than North Korea. For what reasons must we beg at his feet? South Korea’s pro-North Korea leftist government is a hundred times worse than the 5 Eulsa Traitors.”
