North Korean TV Proclaims Launch

North Korean state television aired a very brief special report at midday to announce the successful launch of the country’s long-range rocket and the satellite North Korea says it carried.

The Chosun Central TV report, which lasted two minutes, consisted of a news anchor reading the report carried earlier today by Chosun Central News Agency verbatim twice.

Rumors that the rocket did indeed launch a satellite into orbit continue to swirl, but there has not been any independent verification to date.
