What? ‘Dictator Kim Jong Il’ Appeared in Seoul?

[imText1]“I am Dictator Kim Jong Il. Please rebuke me so I do not do bad things.”

Kim Jong Il appeared at the Shinchon subway station on the afternoon of 19th. Not the real Kim Jong Il, but a Kim Jong Il dummy holding a red notice board certainly caught the attention of passers-by.

To mark the beginning of their vacations, the Youth and College Students’ Alliance for Human Rights in North Korea (Representative, Kim Ik Hwan) began a street campaign to promote awareness of North Korean human rights.

Organized by students interested in North Korean human rights, the campaign began on July 5th. Every Wednesday, photos depicting human rights violations in the North are displayed around the Shinchon subway station.

On this day, 20 students worked to unveil the truth about North Korea’s public executions, and the fact that people are dying of starvation, and began a petition pressuring the government to enact North Korean human rights legislation.

University student, Huh Jeong Hyuk, a participant of the campaign said “I knew of North Korea’s situation, but this is the first time that I have come to know of the situation in detail. It would be good to see North Korea amend reforms, this time focusing on the people of North Korea.”

Another student, Kang Ji Sook, said “I hope that the campaign will steadily continue and accurately reveal the truth about North Korea.”

Campaign representative Kim Ik Hwan said “The campaign will not only be held during the holidays but will continue even after classes resume. We welcome any university student who is interested in North Korean human rights issues.”
