Photos of Common North Koreans Outside of Pyongyang

[imText1]The DailyNK recently obtained photos from a Russian couple who were traveling in North Korea. The couple secretly captured photos of North Koreans going about their daily lives.

This Russian couple went to North Korea last July as tourists.

Although tourists taking photographs are generally prohibited and guides scrupulously eye tourists in case photos are taken, this couple took photographs in secret capturing the real lifestyles of the North Korean people.

They stayed at the Emperor Hotel where only 11 other guests were residing, and under the surveillance of guides were able to visit other villages.

In a postscript of their holiday the couple wrote “Although the North Korean scenery is beautiful, North Korea is very poor and oppressed by political propaganda. Instead of electricity, paved roads, water, sewage systems, and cars, there are portraits of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il”.

The photographers maintain they captured actual footage of common North Korean people living outside of Pyongyang, which the DailyNK has published.
