High Level PRC-North Korea Military Meeting Begins

Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported on the 14th that the head of the General Political Department of the People’s Liberation Army, Li Jinai is to lead a delegation on an official visit to North Korea from today until November 18th.

Li and his delegation have been invited by North Korea’s Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces, and the delegation is comprised of a slice of PLA top brass.

Xinhua reported that the purpose of the visit was for China and North Korea to strengthen their mutual cooperation and maintain regional peace and stability. The delegation will reportedly meet with Minister of the People’s Armed Forces Kim Young Chun, among others.

On the 9th, Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu met with North Korea’s People’s Safety Ministry First-vice Director Ri Tae Cheol in Beijing. Specific information about their conversation was not made available, but it is likely that border security and defector issues were high on the agenda.
