It was revealed that Kim Sang Hyuk (33), who escaped from Hyesan, Yangkang Province to Changbai, China on the 12th of this month and has been hiding out somewhere in Yanji, was arrested with one other defector by the Chinese border garrison at 9 a.m. on the 24th of October.

An affiliate of the Chinese Public Security Agency revealed the fact that Mr. Kim was caught by the Chinese border garrison¡¯s doing a raid on a house in Yanji.

The National Security Agency of North Korea had asked the Chinese Public Security Agency to conduct a search because Mr. Kim was suspected of touching base with his relatives in South Korea and leaking confidential information about North Korea to the outside.

Mr. Kim had been previously arrested on the spot by the Safety Agency while using a cell-phone to contact his relative in South Korea and shortly thereafter escaped to Changbai, China with a fellow defector.

The affiliate said that ¡°North Korean authorities succeeded in his recent arrest through the investigation of his cell-phone. They forced his acquaintances recorded in his cell-phone to contact him and traced him. When he was arrested in Hyesan, his phone book, cell phone and notes were confiscated.¡±

He communicated with his family in South Korea to request money while moving to hiding places. His family members in South Korea say nothing about his affairs.

The Commission to Help North Korean Refugees and other defectors in Seoul has been working to save his life.

A defector who tried to save him said in a telephone conversation with DailyNK ¡°I tried to contact him in Yanji, but the surveillance network was so tight.¡±

He added that ¡°He will hardly survive. Chinese Public Security Agency is expected to turn both of them over to the North Korean National Security Agency immediately in compliance with strong demands from the NSC.¡±

He may be repatriated to North Korea after the Chinese Public Security¡¯s investigation of his activities in China, according to an affiliate of the Chinese Public Security Agency and acquaintance of the defector.
