Investigating Shenyang Consulate, Which Ignored Choi Wook Il Seeking Help

[imText1]A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed on the 10th that a commission group will be sent to the consulate in Shenyang in association to the Park Dae Han case and Choi Wook Il’s telephone request.

The spokesperson said in a phone conversation with the DailyNK “We must identify the number of abductees seeking help but are not being helped. An investigation group is being arranged to be sent (to China) in order to prevent this from happening in future.”

The spokesperson said “This is an investigation to assess whether or not the system and personnel involved in handling the Choi Wook Il case is being executed properly, not to scrutinize or rebuke affiliates of the consulate” and denied that the facts announced in the press as not true.

Yonhap News reported on the same day that “The commission group will investigate the personnel and consulates that received Choi’s phone call and analyze what actually happened. On the basis of these results, appropriate punishment and criminal charges will be made” and said “This is an order from Song Min Soon, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.”

After being abducted on the shores of the East Sea in 1975, a fisherman Choi Wook Il (67) defected from North Korea within 31 years and telephoned the Korean Consulate in Shenyang, China requesting help. In response to the request, the consulate recipient bluntly responded “How did you get my phone number? Who told you this number?”
