Park: One Hand Cannot Clap

President-elect Park Geun Hye has branded North Korea’s decision to conduct a third nuclear test as a “grave threat to the Korean Peninsula and international peace that undermines the building of South Korean-North Korean trust and makes efforts at peace difficult.”

Park, speaking at an emergency meeting in Seoul, went on, “The international community, including the Six-Party Talks member states and the UN, must make North Korea take responsibility for its bad behavior.”

“The new administration will not allow a nuclear-armed North Korea, and North Korea must recognize that they will not get anything for their provocative behavior,” she added. “Against a backdrop of firm deterrence, the new administration will strengthen cooperation with the international community for North Korean denuclearization.”

Park pointed out, “The new administration cannot bring about the ‘trust process’ by itself. We say that it takes two hands to clap, and similarly this can only be done if they are sincere and show a serious attitude and behavior.”

Ten government officials from relevant sectors attended the meeting, which lasted for around fifty minutes.
