North Takes Aim at March Summit

North Korea has branded the 2nd Nuclear Security Summit, which is set to take place at COEX in southern Seoul on March 26th and 27th, a “severe provocation” which it “will not sit idly by” and watch.

In a statement released by Chosun Central News Agency today in the name of three North Korean organizations including the Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, North Korea asserted, “It is astonishing that a discussion about nuclear security issues in and of itself would be taking place in South Chosun.”

Pointing out that the U.S. and South Korea are intending to “mobilize their massive modern nuclear war machine to enforce the ‘Key Resolve-Foal Eagle’ combined military exercises” immediately before, in the words of the piece, “having some form of ‘nuclear security’ this and that even while still able to smell the smoke of the gunpowder” is, it said, “both ridiculous and offensive.”

“This is yet another intolerable crime which runs counter to the aspirations of an entire nation which hopes for Chosun Peninsula peace and security and the people who love world peace, and should be condemned as an unacceptable, severe provocation which our Republic will not be able to withstand,” the piece concluded.
