{"id":51820,"date":"2022-05-30T14:13:08","date_gmt":"2022-05-30T05:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dailynk.com\/english\/?p=51820"},"modified":"2022-05-30T14:22:27","modified_gmt":"2022-05-30T05:22:27","slug":"four-high-school-students-in-chongjin-punished-for-sexually-assaulting-teacher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dailynk.com\/english\/four-high-school-students-in-chongjin-punished-for-sexually-assaulting-teacher\/","title":{"rendered":"Four high school students in Chongjin punished for sexually assaulting teacher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Four students at a high school in Chongjin, North Hamgyong Province, were recently punished for sexually assaulting their headteacher back in March, Daily NK has learned.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn April, four high school students living in Chongjin\u2019s Ranam District were sentenced to 10 years of hard labor for drugging and sexually assaulting their headteacher,\u201d a source in the province told Daily NK on May 23.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In March, the teacher had brought students from her class to the school to protect school assets. The students gave her a drink laced with sleeping powder before sexually assaulting her. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The teacher did not report the incident to the school as she feared it would damage her reputation, the source said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The students continued sexually harassing the teacher after the incident. \u201cEvery day, the students would wait for the teacher in an alley on her way home from work. They would harass her, saying \u2018Let\u2019s be friends!\u2019 and \u2018Let\u2019s go to a motel!\u2019 and even threatened to spread rumors at school if she didn\u2019t respond positively [to their demands],\u201d the source said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The teacher eventually reported the students to the Ministry of Social Security in Chongjin, which immediately arrested the students and launched an investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the investigation, the students confessed that they \u201cdecided to sexually assault their teacher after watching pornography together,\u201d the source said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just a month after they were arrested, the Ministry of Social Security sentenced them to 10 years of hard labor, he added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Article 15 of North Korea\u2019s Criminal Code stipulates that minors between the ages of 14 and 17 who violate the law are subject to \u201csocial education.\u201d In this case, however, the North Korean authorities appear to have imposed a more severe punishment given the nature of the crime, which included the gang rape of a teacher and consuming pornography, behavior that is classified as \u201canti-socialist and non-socialist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe authorities intend to make young people aware that \u2018anti-socialist\u2019 and \u2018non-socialist\u2019 acts will be subject to harsh punishments,\u201d the source said. \u201cIn order to eradicate bad behavior among students, the authorities appear to be emphasizing moral education while also intensifying crackdowns on the consumption of impure materials.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Article 29 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynk.com\/english\/exclusive-daily-nk-obtains-materials-explaining-specifics-new-anti-reactionary-thought-law\/\">\u201canti-reactionary thought law,\u201d<\/a> which was <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">adopted in Dec. 2020<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, stipulates five to 15 years of correctional labor for those who \u201cconsume or possess pornographic recordings, or books, photos or drawings that \u2018preach superstitution.\u2019\u201d Those who have produced or distributed such materials face life in prison or even execution.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThree of the students who received punishments are children of high-ranking officials in the provincial or municipal governments,\u201d the source said, adding, \u201cThe parents were dismissed from their positions as they were accused of being irresponsible with educating their children.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Translated by Vilde Olaussen.
