{"id":44419,"date":"2020-04-10T09:29:36","date_gmt":"2020-04-10T00:29:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dailynk.com\/english\/?p=44419"},"modified":"2026-04-05T14:42:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T05:42:28","slug":"kim-jong-un-orders-expansion-of-ski-resort-in-chagang-province","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dailynk.com\/english\/kim-jong-un-orders-expansion-of-ski-resort-in-chagang-province\/","title":{"rendered":"Kim Jong Un orders expansion of ski resort in Chagang Province"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early last month, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered the expansion of a ski resort near Kanggye, Chagang Province, Daily NK has learned.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cChagang Province authorities are mobilizing storm troopers [units put together on an adhoc basis to work on construction projects] to work on the expansion project,\u201d a Changang Province-based source told Daily NK on Apr. 8.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A RESPONSE TO DISCONTENT?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chagang Province boasts several munitions factories, which are disguised to look like general purpose manufacturing sites. These factories include the Kanggye Tractor Factory, the Kanggye General Precision Machine Plant and the February 8 General Machine Factory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of the military munitions factories in the province are underground and the province\u2019s residents face intense restrictions on their movement. Most local residents have little choice but to work in the munitions factories.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recent years, however, the province\u2019s elite and powerful have increasingly taken pains to prevent their children from working in these munitions factories.
